Deanna DeValve, a senior at Marquette High School, volunteered to photograph the Midnight
Run finish and awards banquet. Deanna and her mom met UPSDA President Darlene Walch at
the UPSDA presentation about sled dog racing held at Peter White Public Library. Deanna
asked permission to take photographs of the presentation because she was working on a music
video. It was that chance meeting which led Deanna, her Dad and older sister to become
volunteers at the UPSDA sled dog races.

The Grand Marais checkpoint is a community effort and over 120 volunteers pitched in to make things happen, including several willing folks who volunteered at the last minute. Rather than try to list all the names of our volunteers, wed like to instead thank all the groups of people who worked so hard to make this race happen here.

The Grand Marais Womens Club they provided breakfast and lunch for everyone. Their soup and sandwich lunches are famous! And a big thank you to all the folks who donated their favorite homemade soup.

The UP200 Race HQ is currently projecting the first musher in the UP200 will finish at approximate 11:00 am at the Lower Harbor in Marquette. This projection is made based on the speed of the lead musher on the trail between Wetmore and Marquette and the trail conditions. Updates to the projected time for the first musher in will be made as the mushers get closer to Marquette.

Keith Aili won the UP200 dog sled race at Mattson Park in Marquette finishing at 11:04 am. Denis Tremblay finished second at 11:11 am and Martin Massicotte finished third at 11:18 am. The rest of the mushers will be finishing at Mattson Park throughout the afternoon.

Joanna Oberg of Ignace, Ontario has won the 2018 Midnight Run! Joanna finished at 11:20 pm at the Lower Habor in Marquette. Second place was Frank Moe of Grand Marais, Minnesota at 11:33 pm and Larry Fortier of Gaylord, Michigan finished in third place at 11:40 pm. Congratulations Joanna, Frank, and Larry!!

The UP200 sled dog race will finish on Sunday, February 18 at the Lower Harbor in Marquette. Its not known when the first musher will finish but it promises to be a very exciting finish with the very competitive field in the UP200 this year. Ryan Anderson, Denis Tremblay, and Keith Aili are past winners of the UP200 and Martin Massicotte, Nathan Schroeder, and Ward Wallin and others are all mushing hard to be the first to finish the UP200.

The bid draw for the UP200 and Midnight Run was held Thursday, Feb 15 at the Holiday Inn in Marquette.

Starting at 7:00 pm on Friday, Feb 16, Denis Tremblay, Martin Massicotte and Kalyn Holl will be the first, second, and third UP200 mushers leaving from Washington Street in downtown Marquette.

Starting at 8:30 pm on Friday, Feb 16, David Gordon, Lisa Dietzen, and Richie Camden will be the first, second, and third Midnight Run mushers leaving from Washington Street in downtown Marquette.

There are 15 tickets are still available at Merchandise in the Holiday Inn in Marquette for The Mush Bus. You will go from Marquette to Grand Marais in comfort (and warmth!) with the narration of tour guide Johnny DePetro. The bus will leave the Holiday Inn in Marquette at 11am on Saturday, February 17, 2018 and journey to Grand Marais, where the UP200 mushers will be arriving to take a layover. Mush Bus riders will find lunch and a big Multi-Raffle awaiting them (raffle winners drawn at 3:30pm). The bus will leave Grand Marais at 4pm and return to Marquette about 6:30pm.
