UPSDA ANNOUNCES FUNDRAISER
Flat Broke Blues Band will be hosting the Yellow Snow Blues Benefit concert from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. at UpFront and Company in Marquette on February 5, 2005. Tickets are $5.00 which will go towards supporting the U.P. 200 and Midnight Run Sled Dog races. Tickets qualify purchasers for numerous door prizes. Tickets can be purchased in advance from UPSDA board members, at Forsberg Flowers, the Mining Journal, Jack’s IGA in Marquette and in Skandia at Hyndman’s General Store. Tickets will also be available at the door and you need not be present to win door prizes.
Pam Forsberg, UPSDA secretary and treasurer, said that the sled dog races include many Upper Peninsula communities and allow for a great economic boost in the middle of the winter.
“This is a wonderful winter family event that community members do not have to pay for or have equipment to participate. I enjoy seeing old friends over the weekend and there are thousands of spectators that view the race, either at the start in Marquette or in the smaller communities used as checkpoints,” she said.
“This event has introduced the U.P. and everyone to the sport of sled dog racing and it is wonderful.”
To date, door prizes include donations from Richardson Jeweler’s, Wal-Mart, Hairlines, and a handcrafted rustic cedar post bed from U.P. Musher Mike Murphy of Wolfsong Rustics. Additional door prizes will be listed on the web page as soon as they are re ceived. Donations to support the sled dog ra ces will also be accepted at the event.
