Friday’s Schedule for the UP200 and Midnight Run

Lots of activities today for the UP200 and Midnight Run dog sled races:

9:00am – 8:00pm – Silent Auction and Merchandise – Holiday Inn, Marquette

10:00 am – Vet Check for all UP200 and MNR teams at the Riverside Auto parking lot. Don’t miss seeing the real athletes of this race receive a pre-race exam by race veterinarians.  Public welcome.UP200 bag drop location will be announced at the musher meeting.

10:00 am – 1:00 pm – UP200 Musher’s Brunch, downtown at Marquette Commons on S. Third Street (down the hill from the Post Office).  Sponsored by the Mining Journal. This is mandatory for UP200 mushers.  There will be a $25.00 penalty for those who did not attend.

12:00pm – 2:00 pm – Midnight Run Chili Feed, Public Service Garage (sponsored by Public Service Garage, Chili from Wendy’s)

5:00pm -7:00pm – Pizza Party at the Marquette Children’s Museum – Meet Scratch and get pictures taken with him!

5:00pm – 9:00pm – Gophers Bakery – 325 W. Washington – come enjoy a treat!

5:00pm – 9:00pm – Marquette Yoga Center – 130 W. Washington – refreshments!

5:00pm – 9:00pm – Michigan Fair -114 W. Washington – refreshments!

NMU Alumni Warm-Up Tent – Fourth & Washington – time to be announced.

6:00pm – 9:00pm – Eagle Mine Information Center – 153A W. Washington – stop in for refreshments!

6:30pm – 9:00pm – Marquette Commons Warming Party – enjoy snacks and beverages, then cheer on the mushers as they depart.  At the Commons building on Third Street.

6:30pm – 10:00pm – Marquette Welcome Center Viewing Party – come watch the teams go by at the Welcome Center on US-41, and enjoy pizza, cookies, hot chocolate, coffee, and more!

6:30pm – 11:00pm – Masonic Building Race Night Party – food, beverages, live music, an indoor viewing area, a History of the Race room, UP200 merchandise, and more!  Seamus and Scratch will be making appearances. Please enter  via the Washington Street entrance ( steep stairs ) or alley entrance by the parking ramp.

6:30 pm – Opening Ceremony for the 27th anniversary of the UP200 and Midnight Run

7:00 pm – UP200 START  – first musher starts at 7:00 PM, last musher starts at 7:24 PM

Both the UP200 and the Midnight Run start in downtown Marquette in front of The Mining Journal.

7:30pm – 9:00pm – Ore Dock Brewing Company – 114. W. Spring St. – warm-up party.

8:30 pm – Midnight Run START – the first Midnight Run musher starts at 8:30 PM, the last musher will start at 8:58 PM.

Prince of Peace Church – bonfire – food & beverages available.  On M-28 in Harvey. Cheer the teams as they pass!

Evening bonfire at Lakenenland Sculpture Park on M-28 – a great place to watch the teams go by!

Chatham MNR Checkpoint: The Midnight Run teams will arrive at the Chatham Checkpoint sometime after midnight.  Here they will take a mandatory 5-1/2 hour layover before starting back to Marquette along the same trail. The public is welcome at this checkpoint, located at the MSU Agricultural Station.  Food will be available and it’s a great place to see the Midnight Run teams!  Teams will begin leaving Chatham around 5:00 am to race back to Marquette.

12:30 am (approximately) – UP200 Mushers start arriving in Wetmore for a mandatory 5-hour layover. This is also an unassisted checkpoint up bound and is a unique opportunity to see Mushers tend to their dogs by themselves.  The teams must spend a minimum of 5 hours rest time in Wetmore before leaving for Grand Marais. We expect the first team will depart Wetmore between 5-6am.
